The TV upgrade has been a work in progress for two years and the end is near! Soon all 11 communities with RTC TV service (Alexander, Arnegard, Garrison, Kenmare, Makoti, Max, New Town, Parshall, Plaza, Ryder and Watford City) will have the same basic, digital and premium packages to choose from. The digital package includes many new channels to suit the various interests of our customers. The new packages will be available this summer.

As we wrap up the video project, we embark on Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). With FTTH we plow fiber to the customer’s house and then their telephone, high speed internet and video services are all transported on one fiber. We started our FTTH project last summer by plowing fiber in the Snake Creek Cabin Site in the Emmet exchange. We will finish that project this year and then we will start plowing at Arrowhead Point in the New Town exchange and the City of Parshall. If time allows fiber may be plowed in additional areas as well. RTC will continue to plow FTTH in other areas over the next several years.

Fiber to the Home – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is RTC putting in Fiber-to-the-Home?
A: Some of our copper cable and equipment needs updating and instead of replacing it with new copper cable it will be replaced with fiber and new equipment. Fiber provides additional bandwidth which will allow us to offer higher internet speeds and provides a way for RTC to offer TV service in areas outside the 11 communities in which it is already available. Fiber will also allow RTC to offer additional services in the future that haven’t even been thought of yet!

Q: How does Fiber-to-the-Home benefit customers?
A: Fiber to the Home will provide state-of-the-art phone, internet and video services. It requires less maintenance than copper cable and eventually will allow RTC to offer TV services in areas outside the 11 communities where it is available today.
