Recently you may have noticed some familiar faces standing behind video cameras and equipment at your local sporting events. That's because RTC staff along with students from the local high schools are part of the BEK Sports West Broadcast Team.
Last fall RTC began providing live coverage of local high school sports on their Digital Video Package through a partnership with BEK Sports. BEK Sports was created by BEK Communications Cooperative in Steele, North Dakota in 2006. In 2009 BEK Sports expanded to cover a larger portion of the state.
Several students from across the area have volunteered to work with RTC and BEK Sports employees to provide quality live broadcasts. The opportunity to work with BEK Sports allows an outlet for students to develop technical and creative skills, as well as receive technological training not usually offered at school. Students are trained to operate cameras and graphics equipment and are tasked with operating that equipment throughout the entire event. At the end of the event, students help to take down and pack up the equipment.
BEK Sports Manager Jordan Hassler says, "Parents and family members of the student volunteers should take great pride in their children's work with BEK Sports. We are proud to have these very talented students working alongside us as we produce quality broadcasts."
This winter RTC and BEK Sports continue to provide Iive local high school sporting events including girls' and boys' basketball, wrestling, and hockey.
