Has Your Modem Lost Its Connection?
 |
If you have high speed internet, also known as DSL, your modem might occasionally have trouble connecting to the internet. When this happens it is important that you don’t press the reset button on your modem. Instead, follow the steps below to reconnect to the internet.
It is very important to follow these steps in order:
Unplug the phone line and the power from your modem for three minutes. If there is any other equipment between the modem and computer, including switches, hubs, and routers (both wired and wireless), unplug those as well for three minutes.
Plug phone line and power back in. If you have other equipment between the modem and computer you need to first plug in the phone line and power to the modem. Wait five minutes then plug in your switch, hub, or router.
Wait 5 minutes and then restart or turn on your computer.
Make sure you can access the internet.
If you are still experiencing trouble after following these steps, please contact the RTC Internet Help Line at 0211 from your landline telephone for further support. If you have a private or blocked number, you will need to dial *82 first. You can also reach the Help Line at 1.800.497.2151 toll-free from any landline phone or 701.627.4381 from a cell phone.
If you are a rural DSL customer and don’t have a modem but instead you have equipment mounted on an interior or exterior wall, try restarting your computer. If you still experience trouble you will need to contact the Help Line for support.
